February 22, 2003Alumnus Rohan Loveland attended the May 2002 workshop. He returned for a brief visit with his parents Radon and Mary Loveland and his friend Stephen Ulrich. The discussion in the cafe centers around a project that the Loveland family wants to do during their visit. Scott Riley, head of utilities, Agriculture manager Adam Nordfors and chief of electricity at Arcosanti, Dr. Sparks, suggest to refurbish the old well pump in camp. The Loveland family donated funds to engage a pump-specialist and the time to address the problem and get it solved. We now have a working pump to expand the irrigation system for the gardens and the second field. “Thank You” to Rohan and his family for their time and generous donation. Categories: News,Victory News 20Mar More road repair money on the way to help Ottawa County, Rep. Victory announces Rep. Roger Victory of Hudsonville today said additional road repair money is headed to Ottawa County for immediate use this year beyond what was originally planned.Victory supported a new law providing $175 million in transportation funding statewide, with much of the money headed directly to counties, cities and villages for road preservation and construction. The money was unspent by various state departments during a previous budget cycle, meaning no budget cuts or additional fees or taxes are required for the investment. The extra money comes in addition to record-level road funding providing by previous long-term reforms. The state also has strengthened its warranty system designed to make sure new and refurbished roads will last longer.“This should accelerate the timetable for road repairs in Ottawa County, and everyone driving here knows that is needed,” Victory said. “When we’re closing down highway lanes because of potholes blowing tires and bending rims – as happened on I-196 in Hudsonville last month – that’s a serious problem. We are taking steps to address the problem and know more must be done.”In addition to state-level projects, money is coming to local road departments. Some of the estimated local allocations include Ottawa County ($1.94 million) and Coopersville ($31,256). ###
