Gabriel Ebert Joins Harvey Fierstein for Gently Down the Stream Off-Broadway

first_imgHarvey Fierstein & Gabe Ebert(Photo: Bruce Glikas) Gabriel Ebert will join fellow Tony winner Harvey Fierstein in the world premiere of Martin Sherman’s Gently Down the Stream at the Public Theater. The off-Broadway production will begin performances on March 14, 2017 and run through April 23 (instead of the previously announced April 16). Sean Mathias directs the staging, which is set to open on April 5. The cast will also include off-Broadway alum Christopher Sears.The play takes place during the dawn of online dating and follows Beau (Fierstein), a pianist in London who meets the eccentric lawyer Rufus (Ebert). Their relationship allows Beau to reexamine what it means to love as a gay man in a new generation.Ebert won a Tony Award in 2013 for his performance in Matilda. He has since appeared on Broadway in Casa Valentina (written by Fierstein) and Thérèse Raquin. His additional credits include Peer Gynt and Preludes on stage and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and Ricki and the Flash on screen. Sears recently appeared off-Broadway in The Harvest; his additional credits include Stupid Fu**ing Bird and London Wall.Gently Down the Stream will feature set design by Derek McLane, costumes by Michael Krass, lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski and sound design by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen.
