Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken has confirmed that he is at work on a musical adaptation of Mrs. Doubtfire. The Aladdin composer will pen the score and collaborate with lyricist David Zippel and book writer Harvey Fierstein (who appeared in the 1993 film). It was recently announced that Menken is also attached to the 2016 Broadway-bound project Happy Trails.“It’s going very well,” Menken told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s in its early stages. We’re really enjoying working on it.” He and Tony winner Zippel (City of Angels) previously teamed up on the Disney animated film Hercules. Fierstein’s bookwriting credits include Menken’s Newsies, his Tony-winning work on La Cage aux Folles and Kinky Boots.Mrs. Doubtfire follows Daniel Hillard, an actor who, following his divorce from his wife Miranda, disguises himself as the titular, British female housekeeper in order to spend more time with his children, who are now in custody of his ex-wife. The film starred the late Robin Williams, in addition to Sally Field, Pierce Brosnan, Fierstein and Mara Wilson.
